Snow, Snow, Snow

We’re supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow tonight, and it’s already coming down pretty hard. We took some quick movies for everyone to check out, and Liz made a movie of the Christmas tree.

iPod Died

By the repetitive click click cliiiiiiiiiick and the apple logo staring me down relentlessly, I knew I was staring at a disk failure. Called the nice support people and they walked me through the hidden diagnostic tools. Did a drive scan, and 20 mins later iPod tells me it can’t read. Less than a month, and it goes illiterate. I’m a good father, really. Never dropped it, or even verbally abused it. I played good tunes: Floyd, Radiohead, Al Green! It wanted new stuff, I gave it Jordis Unga. Matter of fact, just last night, no lie, I made a kick-ass “sock” for it from a dollar Corona koozie I picked up at the store. It was the coolest iPod in Altoona. I sewed for this device, and that’s how I’m repaid. Kids…

So after a couple calls with the very nice Canadian phone support, I’ve got a shiny new iPod en route to replace this iLemon. They’re even throwing in one of the new Nanos for the inconvenience. Don’t I wish..

On How Liz Owned the Bowling Alley

Damnation! We decided to have a night out with dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s and bowling. Liz was in true form tonight at Holiday Bowl. They were having silly contests all night, with two MC’s, one of which we could have done without. Hint: you can take a break every now and then. Liz and I were both chosen from a drawing for Bowling Survivor, where ten people had to bowl several frames in odd ways: using weak hand, on one leg, etc. Liz and I were on the same team, and Liz ended up winning the whole thing! I also won some lesser prizes for being on the winning side. Later on in the night, I got a special red pin in the 1 position and made a strike, so I won another set of prizes. All told, we left with $50 in cash, 33 free games of bowling, two free appetizers from Don Pablos, a free entree from TGIFriday’s, two 15% coupons at Sukura Japanese Steak House, a free Ponderosa Steak House buffet, a $10 coupon for Unkel Joe’s Woodshed, and a two-liter of Pepsi.

I’m taking Liz bowling more often.

Well, we made it home safe. I can’t really put into words what a great and meaningful time we had with our family and friends, so I’m not gonna try. I’m looking forward to Summer already. Most of you have probably found the pictures already, but if not, here they are.

I do want to say thanks again to Jimmy and Ginger for opening thier home to us. You two are the best.

And now that I think about it, Jeff and I should have gone ahead and thown those clothes ono the roof. You got lucky, Joey. You got lucky.

Oh yeah, and to all the new friends we made, hope to see y’all again soon.

Pictures!

Finally got some pictures of Altoona and our house posted. The quality isn’t great, but you can get an idea of the great woodwork inside. Now that I’ve made an initial move to get some photos posted, I’ll try to do better keeping it up to date. Check out the cheesy little photo gallery.

The Holiday Plans

We’re planning a whirlwind tour of the South for Chistmas. We’re gonna take of Christmas Eve and head to Memphis, and stay with my stepmother Sharron for Christmas. Then it’s off to the Big Easy to stay with Liz’s family for a few days. After that, it’s up north back to Oxford for a few days to see my Oxford family and for New Year’s. We can’t wait to see the Oxford crew! Jimmy & Ginger are letting us crash at their place, so no doubt Ewing will be the party headquarters.

Snow Tires

We went to Sam’s Club tonight and got snow tires for the Altima. Now we can slide around in the ice, snow, and slush when it arrives. The biggest snow we’ve seen so far was on Thanksgiving day by request from Audrey. The Pennsylvanians have told us it’s unusual that we haven’t seen more snow by now, but that majority of it will be here in January. We have seen the wind gusts. Sixty mile per hour wind comes over the hill and hits our bedroom window, and sounds like a train whipping through the alley between us and the neighbor’s house. Not really looking forward to that kind of wind with a snow payload.
